Stone, Wood and Sustainability
Stone, Wood and Sustainability
This residential building is part of a wider redevelopment project set within a 9,200-square-meter park, where several other renovation works have been carried out. The design was guided by a strong focus on sustainability and the desire to integrate the new construction harmoniously into its natural setting, favoring the use of local and natural materials.
For this reason, the façades are clad in ferruginous stone from Val Cavargna, a material traditionally used in many buildings around Lake Como, and FSC-certified chestnut wood panels, which also function as sun-shading elements. The roof was designed as a green roof, except for the area hosting a solar thermal system with high-efficiency panels. This system is integrated with a hybrid heating system and radiant floor distribution, improving overall energy performance.

The envelope is insulated using composite panels of mineralized wood fiber and rock wool, applied as an external coat over porous and partially reinforced hollow clay blocks. To further reduce the building’s environmental impact, a rainwater recovery tank was installed for reuse in irrigation and other non-potable applications.

The result is a project that combines traditional materials with advanced energy-saving technologies, creating a home that is both deeply connected to its local context and future-oriented in terms of performance and sustainability.
